This is such a wonderful spot for breakfast. They are generous with the portions, actually it is filling and not over the top. The menu can be rather confusing, but it is a fun menu. My favorite is the X-M Plate and there are so many other, creative menu options. If you are looking for a decent breakfast, I highly recommend this place. Be prepared as some mornings there will be a lineup at the door.
Well well....all those times I meant to, and I finally made it in! Can we talk about Shmeg's and my new found adoration?! Upon entry, it feels like a "fun place" to go. Further examination reveals that is entirely accurate, as their interior is full of fun and kitschy touches of decor, with so many layers. I'm moderately sure all the plates, coffee cups and salt & pepper shakers are not repeated per table, and the vast array of tables and chairs give you the same thought. The walls splashed with a myriad of different decorations and ideas are a sight of their own, but still it feels comfy. The food. That's why I can here, remember?! One would have to be lost to not know what they're all about, and it's pretty clear they make most anything you see and eat in house! We came.for breakfast, and the menu, in all of its handwritten script glory is fun and a sight to behold. Options from giant plate sized pancakes, to colossal breakfast sandwiches, to the insane "Plate X-M". I took the plunge, and was blown away by the "Plate X-M" and it's layered deliciousness. Chopped potatoes, sausage, cheese, and eggs topped with bacon, over homemade bread toasted and buttered. Legit perfection.
My family and I love Shmeg's but my only disappointment is they don't give enough sausage. I don't have a problem with paying extra, but I only had 3 small pieces and I don't eat bacon so I requested no bacon just sausage. Well I guess they must've thought I said "No sausage" as well. Lots of potatoes though and the eggs were fluffy. I don't eat bread, but it was buttery and homemade as always. We will be back and next time I will make sure I request extra sausage. The waitress saw the sausage amount so she knew I wasn't fabricating a story. They gave my husband a lot of sausage, I guess because he didn't request any difference. But great place, always crowded but kind of slow pace in the kitchen.
Omg the FOOD! We were lucky enough to get seats Looking right into the kitchen. We were starving & our eyes were bugging out watching them flip giant pancakes, make dough for neverending loaves of their amazing fresh baked bread, putting piles of bacon on breakfast plates, ohmagawd. Everything here is amazing, but imo the star of every single plate was that damn amazing beer bread that they make here. They serve it toasted with breakfast plates & grilled for sandwiches, and I swear that stuff is the best. I had so much leftovers that I was eating the rest of my breakfast for a couple of days, and literally rationing out that amazing bread. Even two days later still was as fresh as when they put it in front of me. Service here was super friendly, and the food is absolutely worth the wait. Yes, come here! Anything you order will be a winner, but promise me you will try SOMETHING on/with that bread!!
It was big portions lol so be ready !!! I couldn't even finish the meal! Everything came out really quick. The meal was inexpensive as well.
